MEET

Dr. Regina Lazarovich, PhD

PRONOUNS: SHE/HER

LICENSED CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST IN CALIFORNIA (31508) & NEW YORK (020676)

I believe that you can pivot from a life ruled by fear, insecurity, and anxiety to a life attuned with your authentic values, passions, and priorities.

I believe this because I did this and have helped hundreds of clients do the same.

I struggled with anxiety and an eating disorder when I was younger. It drained me and caused me so much suffering and shame. Then I discovered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindful Self-Compassion, Intuitive Eating, and Health at Every Size. Applying these approaches changed my life in the best possible way. It gave me back the energy that I now direct to what fills me with purpose and joy: helping others flourish. Over the past fifteen years, I’ve helped hundreds of clients reclaim their lives from anxiety disorders, panic attacks, OCD, disordered eating, and body image issues.

To help as many people as possible, I founded Compass CBT as an online therapy practice serving clients across California and New York. Because I’ve been in therapy myself, I understand that it can feel scary to start working with a new therapist. I’ll meet you with warmth, compassion, and respect. We will begin by discussing your values, priorities, and unique identity. Together, we’ll set goals, and I will create a treatment plan to help you reach them. I'll help you develop more effective ways of working through your difficulties. I may also suggest between-session assignments to help you achieve real, long-lasting results. I’ll help you take small steps to make larger changes in your life and support you every step of the way!

When not seeing clients, I enjoy spending quality time with loved ones and being in nature. I'm also very fond of my cat, Nebula, who you may sometimes catch napping on the couch behind me during our sessions.

My values

Diversity

As a refugee who immigrated to the United States from Ukraine in 1995, I deeply honor multiculturalism and intersectionality. I meet clients of different races, ethnicities, national origins, sexual orientations, gender identities, sizes, and ability levels with respect. I honor these differences and the impact of systemic factors on mental health and well-being.

Compassion

Compassion is caring about another person’s distress coupled with the desire to ease it. I strive to meet every client in this way. Compassion toward others creates a better world and comes easier to most of us than compassion toward ourselves. I know the transformative power of self-compassion firsthand and teach my clients to cultivate it for themselves.

Connection

As a social species, we are wired to connect. Both introverts and extroverts need connections to thrive. I aim to foster the same kinds of safe, authentic, and compassionate relationships with my clients as I cultivate in the rest of my life. I help clients break free from unhelpful beliefs and behaviors that keep them from the nourishing connections they crave.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science from Brooklyn College. I earned my Master of Science and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University. I completed my predoctoral internship at the University of California, Davis and my postdoctoral fellowship at Cognitive Behavioral Associates, a group practice specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). My clinical work has spanned hospital, university counseling center, community health center, and private practice settings. Prior to founding Compass CBT, I spent nine years working as a staff psychologist at a top private practice group in New York City.

I have a comprehensive educational and clinical background in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I have taught courses on Cognitive and Behavioral Approaches to Counseling and Psychotherapy to graduate students at Brooklyn College. I utilize evidence-based practices in my clinical work to address panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, specific phobias, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I approach disordered eating and body image issues from Health at Every Size® (HAES) and Intuitive Eating perspectives.
